This year, we will again organise a road trip from the Netherlands to the Ionian VolksFest on the Greek island of Kefalonia. Our friends are organising the meeting for the 10th time this year. A good reason for us not to fly there, but to drive.
We also made this trip once in 2021, which gave us wonderful memories and during which we met many friends along the way.
We will leave on Wednesday 21 August and drive via Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland to Italy, where we will take the ferry to Patras, Greece. We will arrive on Kefalonia on 26 August, for 9 days of partying, sun, sea and air-cooled Volkswagens.

We have been preparing for months and have found a nice route, where we drive a mostly via the highways, but can also take time here and there to see the surroundings.

August 21, 2024
Day 1:
We will start with a long drive from the 53Classics homebase in Vlaardingen to Sélestat in France. This wil be the longest leg of the trip, because we want to spent some time in Switzerland the day after and the highways to Sélestat are pretty boring.
August 22, 2024
Day 2:
Depending on the weather we want to do some sightseeing in Switzerland today, on our way to Como, Italy.
A few years ago we stayed in Lauterbrunnen, which is an amazing village in Switzerland, surrounded by high mountains and many waterfalls.
After a tour around Lauterbrunnen and Interlaken we will drive to the Gotthardtunnel and the last part of the leg to Como, Italy.
August 23, 2024
Day 3:
An easy day today, we will drive from Como to Ancona, where we will spend the night. We are not sure about the exact route, we might go off the highway to do some sightseeing on our way to Ancona.
August 24, 2024
Day 4:
Another easy day. We have to be at the ferry terminal at 14:30 to check in for our crossing to Patras so we have the morning to drive around and do some sightseeing.
The ferry will leave at 17:30 and the crossing will take about 24 hours.
August 25, 2024
Day 5:
After 24 hours on the ferry, we will reach Patras. From here we will drive about 1,5 hours to the port of Killini, where we will spend another night in a hotel.
August 26, 2024
Day 6:
An early start today! We have to be on the 06:15 ferry to Poros. The crossing will take about 1,5 hours.
From Poros we will drive to Kefalonia Airport to pick up our families. They will fly in from Amsterdam in the morning. After that, we have no real planning, but we will most likely drive to Agia Effimia to check in to the appartment where we will stay for a week.
Agia Effimia is only 15 minutes from Sami, where the 10th Ionian VolksFest takes place.

An early start today, we have to get on the 08:45 ferry from Poros to Kilini. From Kilini we will drive to Patras for our next ferry back to Ancona.
September 5, 2024
Day 17:
We will arrive in Ancona late in the afternoon. From Ancona we will drive to our hotel in Misano Adriatico. Our hotel is located at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. The weekend after our visit the MotoGP will take place at the circuit, so it will be very busy over there.

Day 18:
Today we will drive from Misano Adriatico to Porto Ceresio, near the Swiss border. A long drive
